Additional Holistic Services

We offer many holistic services such as Herbal Therapy, Prolotherapy, Ozone therapy, and more to heal and revitalize your pet.

Herbal Therapy

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used in China for over 2000 years to maintain health in humans and animals. TCM includes herbs, acupuncture and massage. Herbal therapy and acupuncture are typically used together, as the combined effect is greater than using one of them alone.

TCM herbal prescriptions are not available over the counter; they are prescribed the same as conventional pharmaceutical drugs. The herbs used in these prescriptions are from the same companies as those used to treat human patients. They have been tested for purity and quality. TCM herbs are safe and effective and can be used for long periods of time with minimal to no side-effects when prescribed and used appropriately.

Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy, also known as nonsurgical ligament reconstruction, is a medical treatment for chronic pain.

“Prolo” is short for proliferation, because the treatment causes the proliferation (growth, formation) of new connective tissue in areas where it has become weak. Prolotherapy is primarily used to treat joint pain, and has been clinically shown to increase joint ligament strength by 30-40% in people.

Clinical results using prolotherapy in dogs and cats appear to indicate the same response. Many elite human athletes use prolotherapy to strengthen their weak ligamentous tissues to prevent against future tears and injury.

Hormone Sparing Sterilization

We offer both ovary sparing spay for females and vasectomy for males as a way for certain dogs to retain the sex hormones without being able to reproduce.

Current evidence indicates that, at least in large breed dogs, the health benefits of keeping the hormones may outweigh the health risks. A recent publication from U.C. Davis (de la Riva, Hart et al, 2013) looked at two joint disorders (hip dysplasia, cranial cruciate ligament injury/tear) and three cancers (lymphosarcoma, hemangiosarcoma and mast cell tumor). It was determined that for all five diseases analyzed, the disease rates were significantly higher in both males and females that were sterilized either early or late compared with intact dogs.

Vaccination Alternatives

Vaccinations are not innocuous. Unfortunately, some individuals react negatively to getting even the most common vaccinations. We will work with each pet owner to outline a vaccination protocol that makes sense. It is our contention that veterinarians have been over-vaccinating pets for years!

Sadly, some of these vaccinations have proven to be ineffective and harmful! We not only have holistic vaccinations but also are able to test your pet to determine if vaccinations are even necessary. Please call to schedule a consultation today.

Fecal Transplantation

Fecal transplantation is becoming a popular and very effective method for treating humans with Clostridium difficile infection. Given the success in the human medicine, we consider this to be a viable alternative therapy in our pets.

Veterinary studies have documented that dogs and cats suffering from both acute and chronic intestinal diseases suffer from fecal dysbiosis when compared to healthy pets. Bacterial types that are thought to be important in intestinal health are decreased in these dogs and cats. Altered microbiomes have also been documented in feline inflammatory bowel disease.

Fecal transplantation is an effective, easy was to adjust the intestinal microbiome.

Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy is an alternative treatment modality with a wide range of applications. By harnessing oxygen’s power, your pet can experience total-body healing. Standard oxygen has two oxygen molecules, whereas ozone has three. The third oxygen molecule is unstable, and turns into a free radical, and this instability makes ozone therapy so effective. Ozone easily gives up the extra oxygen molecule, saturating the treated area with oxygen.

Increased oxygenation benefits immune functions, reduces infections, accelerates wound healing, and suppresses cancer cell replication. Ozone therapy is a natural, effective way to increase tissue oxygenation, offering extra resistance to disease and cancer, and is also a particularly effective “disinfectant” for bacterial, viral, and fungal infections in pets and people. All degenerative, neoplastic, immunologic, and aging diseases involve lack of oxygen, which makes ozone therapy a highly beneficial treatment for these condition types.

"Great experience. We recently moved to the area and noticed a lump on our dog and made an appointment to establish care and get it looked at. We noticed it growing (or maybe it was my imagination) so I sent an email at 9:30pm to Dr. Gordon's office asking if there were any cancellations to get us in earlier. He personally replied the next morning at 5am saying he could slot us before the other scheduled appointments. When we came in, he and all the staff were very patient and caring. He took his time, did some diagnostics that a different vet didn't do and when we decided to remove the lump he did the surgery; our girl is now recovering. After the surgery, he followed up after-hours and over the weekend to ensure she was doing well. The office was clearly very busy but somehow we never felt rushed.I'm not a medical professional so have no basis to evaluate the actual clinical work but to a layman observer all looks good. What I can say is that Dr. Gordon clearly cares about both his animal patients and their human owners. He has a wonderful"bedside manner"and professionalism and I'm very happy we found him."
